Update 2.3 for Escape Grul is now live, bringing a variety of improvements and new gameplay features. Read the full list of changes below.
Item adjustments π§
Added item pickup sound.
Item interaction sounds can now be heard by all players during multiplayer.
The Fuel can item has received a new item drop sound along with a unique sound when walking with the item held.
The fuel can will now explode upon being shot which will destroy the item and knock out Grul and any nearby players.
New items πΊ
Vase - A new type of item that can be found around the house. The Vase can be smashed to alert Grul and cause a distraction.
Trumpet - A musical instrument that can be used to distract Grul or annoy your friends with.
Wheel - The car wheel is a new item that is now required for the car escape.
Padlock key - The padlock key unlocks the padlock under the stairs and has been added to replace the combination lock puzzle.
New difficulty - Horror mode π»
Hard mode has been replaced with a new Horror mode. Horror mode still retains the increased difficulty of hard mode with various new additions to make it the ultimate horror experience. The goal is to provide a more immersive and intense horror playthrough that varies from the standard mode.
Horror mode gameplay modifications
Less hud elements/screen clutter.
Darker environment and additional post process effects.
No music.
Randomised item spawn locations for some items.
No visual audio indicators for Grul along with decreased footstep sounds.
Slower player movement.
Higher chance for gameplay events such as traps to occur.
General changes/QOL β¨
Added party hat to Grul for the duration of the anniversary event.
Added ability to honk the car horn.
Adjusted various sounds for interactions that previously did not have sound effects.
Added missing sound and music cues to all ending cutscenes.
Updated various UI elements.
Made various improvements to mobile controls for on screen buttons and other hud elements.
Updated post process effects.
Adjusted the lost toy quest to only be displayed when a toy is collected.
Added a variety of new achievements to collect along with in game popups for when an achievement is unlocked.
Removed the cosmetic accessories menu.
Updated the flashlight component to look much smoother.
Adjusted Grulβs hitbox so projectiles will now be more consistent when hitting Grul in the body.
Escape Adjustments π§
The car escape now requires a wheel item to be attached to the car.
The pipe puzzle has been reworked and can now be repaired in any order.
The safe puzzle has been removed and the basement key can now be found on a hook in the open.
The gear in the attic no longer requires bolt cutters to access.
The combination padlock under the stairs has been replaced with a key padlock which now requires a padlock key to unlock.
The lever item has moved locations.
Leaderboard π
The speedrun leaderboard has been updated with the latest submissions.
What's next? π
On January 15th Escape Grul turns 1 year old. So much has changed since the initial release and throughout 2026 we will continue to expand on the game and add new content. Our main focus right now is to constantly improve the feel of the game and ensure the gameplay feels polished. Alongside this, we are aiming to add new content, including a new escape, improved Grul AI, and objects with physics. Thank you to everyone who has played and supported Escape Grul this year.
